A client asked me recently why I chose a career in the wellness field. My answer: I want you to feel good. I want you to feel amazing, actually, because when you feel better in your body, then you’re usually in a better mood, and you’re likely to influence other people to feel good, too. And if I can help that chain of events even in the smallest way, then my work is worth it.
Speaking of feeling better in your body, one small step you can take is swapping out foods that make you feel sluggish and fatigued for more nutritious, energizing foods instead.
Here are five nutritious food swaps that you can make with ease.
Swap out pasta for spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles to reduce the carb load at dinner. You’ll get an extra dose of nutrients and reduce your calorie intake.
Swap out cow’s milk for almond milk or coconut milk. Dairy is often a culprit for poor digestion, upset stomach, and congestion.
Swap out mayonnaise for avocado in your chicken salad or on your sandwich for a dose of healthy fat. Your brain, skin, and joints will thank you for it.
Swap out white rice for cauliflower rice. Just pulse raw cauliflower in your food processor until it has the texture of rice, then use it in a stir fry or in your favorite rice dish.
Swap out refined white sugar for a natural sweetener such as coconut sugar, raw honey, or stevia. These gentle sweeteners won’t cause dramatic spikes in your blood sugar.
When you make these swaps with consistency, you’ll start noticing a difference in the way you feel. Maybe you’ll feel fuller longer because you’re including fiber and good fats. Maybe your mental focus will improve from eating less sugar. Or perhaps your clothes will fit better because you’re not as bloated.
